Bateman created a collection of woven samples that is ominous and impressive\, but mostly unseen since Dr. Bateman’s work far exceeds the samples included in the six monographs published in the 1980s by the Shuttle Craft Guild. In this presentation\, Robyn Spady will share some of Dr. Bateman’s most innovative work and how he took some weave structures to new heights. \nRobin’s Bio – https://www.spadystudios.com/ \n \nRobyn Spady was introduced to handweaving as a baby with her handwoven baby blanket woven by her great-grandmother.  Inspired by her blankie\, she learned to weave at a young age and has been weaving for over 50 years.  She completed HGA’s Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving (COE-W) in 2004 with the specialized study Loom-controlled Stitched Double Cloth.    Robyn is fascinated by the infinite possibilities of crossing threads and loves coming up with new ideas to create fabric and transform it into something new and exciting. She is committed to turning the weaving world on to double-faced fabrics\, four-shaft weaves\, uncommon and advanced weave structures\, and passementerie techniques.  Robyn is also the founder and editor of Heddlecraft® magazine.

She was first introduced to felting in 1984 and has become entranced by this rich and ancient textile. Learning the process of felting was a very natural and perhaps inevitable transition for her art. \nTylar uses her background in painting\, quilting\, dyeing\, and design to create each unique art object. Mixing colored fibers with abstract hand strokes bring together these loves in exciting and satisfying ways. Tylar has always loved color and fiber. Felting has given her the opportunity to combine and explore color\, texturing\, 3-dimensional form\, folk art and fashion design. \nHer fashion collection includes a wide range and styles of garments and accessories based on the nuno felting technique\, the art of fusing silk and cotton fabrics with wool fiber. All designs are original and are made from start to finish in her studio\, Thimbleberry Felt Designs\, located in Eugene\, Oregon. \nTylar’s felted fashions are distinctive and unique to the Pacific Northwest\, featuring functionality\, highlighting color blending\, surface texture\, and utmost practical wearability with a bit of whimsy. \nThimbleberry Felt Designs has received many awards over the years and her fashions have been featured on both Portland Fashion Week and the Uncommon Threads runways in Portland\, Or and St. Charles\, Ill. \nTylar currently sells at her gallery in Eugene. She teaches both groups and private classes to aspiring beginners and experienced felt artists. Her textural felts have inspired other felt artists and students for years. She has vast experience of teaching every age group and every ability. \nTylar enjoys and values working with wool because it is a renewable resource and a healthy component of a sustainable ecology.

SUMMARY:Kiki Dembrow - Presentation:  My Weaving Journey
DESCRIPTION:  \nKiki’s tapestry journey began in 2005 and included the exploration of different weaving traditions: From traditional French practices in Aubusson\, France  to the Navajo use of raised outline.  An eclectic group of tapestry artists has been a source of inspiration and problem solving: From Silvia Heyden to Sarah Swett. This slide presentation of her personal journey is in many ways a broad overview of tapestry past and present.  \nBio \nSince 2005\, Kiki Dembrow’s passion has been tapestry. Weaving has become the means by which she explores how to translate the interplay of ideas\, images\, and colors that resonate for her into the language of tapestry. Kiki’s practice includes an on-going study of different techniques from different weaving traditions. Since 2006 her tapestries have been regularly exhibited in American Tapestry Alliance’s small unjuried format at Convergence. Her tapestry Landscape was awarded Jurors Choice by the American Tapestry Alliance and Second Place by the Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild at the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild Fiber Celebration in 2018.
