DESCRIPTION:Registration details:\nWorkshop Dates and Times:\nWednesday\, September 18     1-4 p.m.\nThursday\, September 19         9 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1-4 p.m.\nFriday\, September 20               9 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1-4 p.m.\n(Clean-up 4 – 4:30 p.m.)\nOptional lunch available at the Senior Center for $5 cash purchase each day Wednesday\, Thursday\, and Friday.  Registration in advance is required.\n\n\nOn-line registration only\nCOSWG member registration opens on Monday\, July 1 @ noon and closes July 21 @ 11:30 p.m. for $125 (indicate whether you want to purchase lunch) \nLate and non-guild member registration opens on Monday\, July 22 for $155 (indicate whether you want to purchase lunch) \nThere must be at least 12 registered to go forward and space is limited to 12. \nAdditional materials fee:  $5 to be paid directly to the instructor in cash.\n\n\nEquipment & Supplies\nParticipants are expected to bring a loom that is already warped at 8 epi\, 8 inches wide with the possibility of weaving at least 8-10 inches high as well as the weaving tools they usually use including a tapestry needle\, some wool weft\, a pencil\, eraser\, scissors\, and a ruler. The instructor will provide a handout\, different kinds of wool weft to sample\, and materials for creating a cartoon. Two weeks before the workshop begins the instructor will email the participants. \nWorkshop Description\nSuccessful tapestries are well-planned. There is a lot to consider before beginning to weave. In this workshop we will look at how to evaluate a design in terms of its weaveability. What is meant by a weaveable design? Next\, how can this design be interpreted in “weaverly” ways? Which tapestry techniques would best serve this design? Finally\, we’ll look at using a cartoon. Most weavers use some form of cartoon to guide their weaving. \nTo move beyond basics\, participants will focus on adding to their toolbox of weaving techniques by weaving a sampler. We’ll explore different techniques for creating lines – vertical and horizontal\, for weaving smooth curves\, and for achieving gradations. The workshop will include a quick review of basic important practices\, including how to avoid ridges and pulling in\, as well as varied options for securing the weft. Tips for fixing shed problems will be shared. Once their samplers are completed\, participants will apply what they’ve learned to a cartoon they have prepared\, or one provided by the instructor. They should expect to finish their project at home. \nBio\nSince 2005\, Kiki Dembrow’s passion has been tapestry. Weaving has become the means by which she explores how to translate the interplay of ideas\, images\, and colors that resonate for her into the language of tapestry. Kiki’s practice includes an on-going study of different techniques from different weaving traditions. Since 2006 her tapestries have been regularly exhibited in American Tapestry Alliance’s small unjuried format at Convergence. Her tapestry Landscape was awarded Jurors Choice by the American Tapestry Alliance and Second Place by the Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild at the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild Fiber Celebration in 2018. She is a founding member of Willamette Tapestry Artists (WTA) and currently the president of the Damascus Fiber Arts School Board.

SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop: Rigid Heddle Beginner’s Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this one-day workshop is to launch (or re-launch) your rigid heddle weaving experience with hands-on warping and the knowledge you need to make your first scarf. Lots of tips\, tricks\, and ideas will be shared to make your weaving experience a fun one. \nNOTE: You must have a loom to take this workshop. The guild does have a couple of looms members can check out. \nInstructor: Raylene Keating \nBio:  \nI have been knitting since the 4th grade which came to a near stop during my child rearing days. I learned how to weave at Cat Bordhi’s “Weaving for Knitters” retreats at Friday Harbor in the San Juans starting in 2019. I so appreciated and have leveraged her Zen approach to rigid heddle weaving. My son’s lawn mower sheep contributions opened the world of spinning yarn. I have several rabbit holes in the fiber arts and have explored some more than others such as but not limited to: knitting\, spinning\, weaving\, crocheting\, tapestry\, dying\, and even needle felting. SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop: Deflected Double-Weave Scarf on a Rigid Heddle
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this two-day workshop is to learn how to warp and how to weave a deflected double-weave scarf pattern on the rigid heddle. Students will successfully warp their looms on the first day and start weaving their scarf on the 2nd day sufficient to be comfortable finishing their scarf at home. Students are allowed creative license in selected the yarns they wish to weave with using an appropriate dent-size for the yarns they have selected. This approach allows the students of this workshop to view the same pattern applied with different yarn selections. \nNOTE: This workshop is not for beginners. DESCRIPTION:Come learn to spin fiber into yarn! In this workshop we will cover the basics of spinning wool into yarn. Fiber is provided\, but participants should bring their own wheel or make arrangements to borrow one. Multiple bobbins are helpful\, but not required. This workshop is suitable for those who have never spun or who are new to spinning and want to gain confidence. \nInstructor: Stephanie Sexton \nBio: Stephani has been knitting since 2001\, spinning since 2008 and weaving since 2016. She enjoys natural fibers\, always has a knitting project with her and would like to expand her weaving skills.
