SUMMARY:Guild Meeting: Memorial Program – Robin Spady\, “Weaving Innovations from the Bateman Collection”
DESCRIPTION:Monthly meetings on 3rd Wednesday.   There is a business meeting plus educational program each month. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://zoom.us/j/96681723025?pwd=BPftxIPpndHbuyliskvVSSVrF1Tf1m.1 \nMeeting ID: 966 8172 3025\nPasscode: 281528 \nDescription: \nDr. William G. Bateman created a collection of woven samples that is ominous and impressive\, but mostly unseen since Dr. Bateman’s work far exceeds the samples included in the six monographs published in the 1980s by the Shuttle Craft Guild. In this presentation\, Robyn Spady will share some of Dr. Bateman’s most innovative work and how he took some weave structures to new heights. \nRobin’s Bio – https://www.spadystudios.com/ \n \nRobyn Spady was introduced to handweaving as a baby with her handwoven baby blanket woven by her great-grandmother.  Inspired by her blankie\, she learned to weave at a young age and has been weaving for over 50 years.  She completed HGA’s Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving (COE-W) in 2004 with the specialized study Loom-controlled Stitched Double Cloth.    Robyn is fascinated by the infinite possibilities of crossing threads and loves coming up with new ideas to create fabric and transform it into something new and exciting. She is committed to turning the weaving world on to double-faced fabrics\, four-shaft weaves\, uncommon and advanced weave structures\, and passementerie techniques.  Robyn is also the founder and editor of Heddlecraft® magazine.

SUMMARY:Workshop - Spinning with Jacey Boggs Faulkner
DESCRIPTION:Registration deadlines:  February 25\, 2026.  On Feb. 16 the event opens to non-members. \nThere is minimum of 16 people needed and maximum of 20 people allowed. \nCost: $80 – On Feb. 16 the price increases to $100. \nWhen: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday\, March 5\, to Friday March 6 \nMaterials: $40 per person\, please bring cash and pay her on the first day. Jacey will bring all the fiber materials needed for 2 days. \nStudents bring:  Spinning wheel that works\, 3 bobbins\, lazy Kate or something that works as a lazy Kate.  Bring your lunch.  Coffee-tea provided. \nDescription:  Join Jacey Boggs Faulkner for 2 days of spinning education and exploration.  We’ll start with a journey from worsted to woolen and all the drafts along that spectrum.  We’ll cover short forward\, short backward\, from the fold\, from the tip\, all the semis\, supported long draw (American)\, and double draft (English) along with how to change diameters and stay consistent.  Then we’ll move into plying\, exploring how and why we ply.  We’ll ply both worsted and woolen yarns and discuss how and why they’re plied differently.  Then we’ll move into some differential tension plying\, looking at coils and other textured techniques. \nBio: Jacey spent the past 20+ years falling in love with fiber. She’s written books and articles\, made videos and tutorials\, and taught workshops and classes all over the world. But she’s most proud of PLY\, which was started on a whim and full lack of knowledge about what she was getting into. She went on to start the PLY Spinners Guild and WEFT Magazine. \nSponsorship: This workshop is partially sponsored by the Patricia Williams Memorial Fund.  Patricia was a spinner\, weaver\, knitter and quilter\, and a member of the Portland Handweavers guild. Central Oregon Spinners & Weavers is grateful to Cherry Williams and the family for their donation. \nSee workshop policy here. \nWorkshop participants agree to indemnity\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.

SUMMARY:Workshop - Karen Gelbard: Trash Bag Garment Design
DESCRIPTION:1 day workshop \nSponsorship: This workshop is partially sponsored by the Patricia Williams Memorial Fund.  Patricia was a spinner\, weaver\, knitter and quilter\, and a member of the Portland Handweavers guild. Central Oregon Spinners & Weavers is grateful to Cherry Williams and the family for their donation. \nInstructor: Karen Gelbard\, theoregonweaver.com \nRegistration: Open to guild members on Feb. 27 and closes on May 5. \nThe workshop will accommodate 8 students. \nCost: Approx. $65. \nMaterials fee: $40\, pay Karen in cash the day of the workshop. \nStudents Bring:  Plastic trash bags of all sizes\, including grocery plastic bags and produce bags.  Bring a roll of colored duct tape in your favorite color if you want.  Karen will have materials as well. \nDescription:  Practicing Design Decisions or Finding Your Inner Designer.  \nThis workshop is for handweavers who want to practice their design skills. We will create a garment using only trash bags. Trash bags of different sizes\, colors\, and styles are used because they are rectangles\, inexpensive\, and easily available.\nBased on the simple format of a trash bag\, we decide what to do for necks\, arms\, and legs. \nFor inspiration\, there will be a review of techniques used by other cultures that turn a rectangle into garment shapes. Cutting\, taping\, braiding\, and laminating plastic bags are examples of the techniques that could be used in this exercise.\nThe workshop will conclude with a fashion show of designs after the session. Participants pair up as designer and model to collaborate. \nBio:   Karen Gelbard\, The Oregon Weaver\, weaves and designs handwoven jackets\, coats\, and scarves. She uses her loom to create color harmonies and textures inspired by living on the Oregon Coast. Her work can be seen online\, at galleries\, and juried art fairs across the country\, where she has received recognition for her handwoven designs. Her favorite activity is rolling out yardage on the cutting table and starting the design process for a new handwoven garment. In addition to designing garments\, Karen has been part of the restoration process at Timberline Lodge\, weaving over 310 yards of upholstery fabric in the historic tradition. Her work has appeared in the Style magazine Tearsheet PDX for four years\, she teaches workshops on garment construction\, researches historic textiles\, and enjoys an occasional trip to Italy to study textiles. \n \nSee workshop policy here. \nWorkshop participants agree to indemnify\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.
