SUMMARY:Program - Tylar Merrill: Soft\, Supple\, and Stylish Felting
DESCRIPTION:Join Zoom Meeting\nhttps://zoom.us/j/91266640116?pwd=K2g0b1hhaU5mNTBkVDIwRTQ4ckdldz09 \nMeeting ID: 912 6664 0116\nPasscode: 974225 \n \n \nTylar Merrill is the owner of Thimbleberry Felt Designs Studio & Gallery and has been creating felt art and teaching fashion design for over 30 years. She was first introduced to felting in 1984 and has become entranced by this rich and ancient textile. Learning the process of felting was a very natural and perhaps inevitable transition for her art. \nTylar uses her background in painting\, quilting\, dyeing\, and design to create each unique art object. Mixing colored fibers with abstract hand strokes bring together these loves in exciting and satisfying ways. Tylar has always loved color and fiber. Felting has given her the opportunity to combine and explore color\, texturing\, 3-dimensional form\, folk art and fashion design. \nHer fashion collection includes a wide range and styles of garments and accessories based on the nuno felting technique\, the art of fusing silk and cotton fabrics with wool fiber. All designs are original and are made from start to finish in her studio\, Thimbleberry Felt Designs\, located in Eugene\, Oregon. \nTylar’s felted fashions are distinctive and unique to the Pacific Northwest\, featuring functionality\, highlighting color blending\, surface texture\, and utmost practical wearability with a bit of whimsy. \nThimbleberry Felt Designs has received many awards over the years and her fashions have been featured on both Portland Fashion Week and the Uncommon Threads runways in Portland\, Or and St. Charles\, Ill. \nTylar currently sells at her gallery in Eugene. She teaches both groups and private classes to aspiring beginners and experienced felt artists. Her textural felts have inspired other felt artists and students for years. She has vast experience of teaching every age group and every ability. \nTylar enjoys and values working with wool because it is a renewable resource and a healthy component of a sustainable ecology.

SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop: Rigid Heddle Beginner’s Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this one-day workshop is to launch (or re-launch) your rigid heddle weaving experience with hands-on warping and the knowledge you need to make your first scarf. Lots of tips\, tricks\, and ideas will be shared to make your weaving experience a fun one. \nNOTE: You must have a loom to take this workshop. The guild does have a couple of looms members can check out. \nInstructor: Raylene Keating \nBio: \nI have been knitting since the 4th grade which came to a near stop during my child rearing days. I learned how to weave at Cat Bordhi’s “Weaving for Knitters” retreats at Friday Harbor in the San Juans starting in 2019. I so appreciated and have leveraged her Zen approach to rigid heddle weaving. My son’s lawn mower sheep contributions opened the world of spinning yarn. I have several rabbit holes in the fiber arts and have explored some more than others such as but not limited to: knitting\, spinning\, weaving\, crocheting\, tapestry\, dying\, and even needle felting. I consider myself a “fiber explorer” always eager to apply my love of learning and what skills I have to new approaches. \nNumber of Students: Min.= 2      Max.= 6 \nEquipment/supplies that the students need to bring: \n\nRigid heddle loom and stand (or clamps to attach to a table)\nOne heddle  – 7.5\, 8\, or 10 dent size is fine – bring the right size for your yarn\nWarping peg(s) with clamps – one or two\nYour yarns (warp and weft yarns) ~ 500-600 yards – see note below**\nThreading hook\nShuttle stick(s) – one at least\, or two if using different weft colors.\nTwo carabiners – 3” size\nEmpty gift paper carboard rolls or paper towel rolls if you have them.\nTapestry needle\nScissors\nA large paper bag or bowl for the floor to hold the yarn you’ll be warping.\nCraft paper (or your choice of material) for warp separator – see note below **\nPen or pencil (for taking notes)\nBring your own drinks and lunch/snacks\n\n.\nSee workshop policy here.\n\nWorkshop participants agree to indemnity\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.

SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop: Deflected Double-Weave Scarf on a Rigid Heddle
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this two-day workshop is to learn how to warp and how to weave a deflected double-weave scarf pattern on the rigid heddle. Students will successfully warp their looms on the first day and start weaving their scarf on the 2nd day sufficient to be comfortable finishing their scarf at home. Students are allowed creative license in selected the yarns they wish to weave with using an appropriate dent-size for the yarns they have selected. This approach allows the students of this workshop to view the same pattern applied with different yarn selections. \nNOTE: This workshop is not for beginners. Students must be familiar with how to warp their loom and how to complete a plain weave project. \nInstructor: Raylene Keating \nBio: \nI have been knitting since the 4th grade which came to a near stop during my child rearing days. The facility cost will be split between those who sign up for the workshop. \nEquipment/supplies that the students need to bring: \n\nRigid heddle loom and stand (or clamps to attach to a table)\nTwo heddles with the right dent size for your yarn\nTwo different yarns preferably with different shrink ratios – yarn amts differ based on yarn selected\nWarping peg(s) with clamps (OR warping board if you prefer indirect warping)\nThreading hook\nTwo shuttle stick(s)\nTwo carabiners – 3” size\nEmpty gift paper carboard rolls or paper towel rolls if you have them.\nTapestry needle\nScissors\nA large paper bag or bowl for the floor to hold the yarn you’ll be warping.\nWarp separators – your prefered\nPen or pencil (for taking notes)\nBring your own drinks\nBring your lunch/snacks to share\n\n.\nSee workshop policy here.\n\nWorkshop participants agree to indemnity\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities. \n\n  \n
