SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop: Rigid Heddle Beginner’s Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this one-day workshop is to launch (or re-launch) your rigid heddle weaving experience with hands-on warping and the knowledge you need to make your first scarf. Lots of tips\, tricks\, and ideas will be shared to make your weaving experience a fun one. \nNOTE: You must have a loom to take this workshop. The guild does have a couple of looms members can check out. \nInstructor: Raylene Keating \nBio: \nI have been knitting since the 4th grade which came to a near stop during my child rearing days. I learned how to weave at Cat Bordhi’s “Weaving for Knitters” retreats at Friday Harbor in the San Juans starting in 2019. I so appreciated and have leveraged her Zen approach to rigid heddle weaving. My son’s lawn mower sheep contributions opened the world of spinning yarn. I have several rabbit holes in the fiber arts and have explored some more than others such as but not limited to: knitting\, spinning\, weaving\, crocheting\, tapestry\, dying\, and even needle felting. I consider myself a “fiber explorer” always eager to apply my love of learning and what skills I have to new approaches. \nNumber of Students: Min.= 2      Max.= 6 \nEquipment/supplies that the students need to bring: \n\nRigid heddle loom and stand (or clamps to attach to a table)\nOne heddle  – 7.5\, 8\, or 10 dent size is fine – bring the right size for your yarn\nWarping peg(s) with clamps – one or two\nYour yarns (warp and weft yarns) ~ 500-600 yards – see note below**\nThreading hook\nShuttle stick(s) – one at least\, or two if using different weft colors.\nTwo carabiners – 3” size\nEmpty gift paper carboard rolls or paper towel rolls if you have them.\nTapestry needle\nScissors\nA large paper bag or bowl for the floor to hold the yarn you’ll be warping.\nCraft paper (or your choice of material) for warp separator – see note below **\nPen or pencil (for taking notes)\nBring your own drinks and lunch/snacks\n\n.\nSee workshop policy here.\n\nWorkshop participants agree to indemnity\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.

SUMMARY:Mini-Workshop: Deflected Double-Weave Scarf on a Rigid Heddle
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this two-day workshop is to learn how to warp and how to weave a deflected double-weave scarf pattern on the rigid heddle. Students will successfully warp their looms on the first day and start weaving their scarf on the 2nd day sufficient to be comfortable finishing their scarf at home. Students are allowed creative license in selected the yarns they wish to weave with using an appropriate dent-size for the yarns they have selected. This approach allows the students of this workshop to view the same pattern applied with different yarn selections. \nNOTE: This workshop is not for beginners. Students must be familiar with how to warp their loom and how to complete a plain weave project. \nInstructor: Raylene Keating \nBio: \nI have been knitting since the 4th grade which came to a near stop during my child rearing days. SUMMARY:Workshop - Patty Huffer: Linen & Lace Weaving
DESCRIPTION:9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 3 -5 (Mon – Wed) \nMinimum of 9 people and maximum of 11 people \nCost: $110 \nMaterials: $20 paid directly to instructor \nDescription: A workshop for 4 and 8 shaft looms. This is a round robin workshop that will cover many types of woven lace\, from Hand Manipulated to loom controlled. Some of the techniques you will be working on include\, Hand Manipulated Lace: Leno\, Brooks Bouquet\, Danish Medallion and Spanish Open Weave. The loom controlled weaves will include: Huck Lace\, Bronson Lace\, Swedish Lace\, Basket Weave\, Bead Leno and Window Pane Lace. \nThese different weave structures can be woven with Linen or 5/2 cotton. \nPatty’s Bio\nPatty Huffer lives in Washington state and has been weaving since 1981. After graduating from Central Washington University\, with a dual education degree in Home Economics and Physical Education\, she took a summer weaving class. This began her 40 years of weaving and teaching others to weave and spin.\n\nThe love of fibers and teaching others has been a life-long inspiration for her. Starting at a young age with knitting\, crocheting\, cross stitch and needle point. There are new ideas coming from students\, fiber artists and other weavers all the time. She looks forward to the moment when each student\, for the first time\, understands how a woven piece is constructed resulting in a beautifully finished product.\n\nPatty’s experience and use of many varieties of looms and threading has contributed to her ongoing passion for weaving. It is always amazing what can be achieved with different yarns (natural and synthetic) and woven structures.\nSee workshop policy here. \nWorkshop participants agree to indemnity\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.

SUMMARY:Local Workshop: Rigid Heddle Beginner’s Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a Beginning Rigid Heddle Workshop with a goal to launch your weaving experience with hands on warping and the knowledge you need to make your first scarf. Lots of tips\, tricks\, and ideas will be shared to make your weaving experience a fun one. \nNOTE: You must have a loom to take this workshop. The guild does have a couple of looms members can check out. \nInstructor: Raylene Keating \nWhen:  9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, Sunday\, February 1  \nWhere: Instructor’s home (see Directory) \nCost: $55 \nNumber of Students: Min.= 3     Max.= 4 \nEquipment/supplies students need to bring: \nInstructor will email a list of supplies to attendees prior to the workshop. \nBio: \nI have been knitting since the 4th grade which came to a near stop during my child rearing days. \nSee workshop policy here. \nWorkshop participants agree to indemnify\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.

SUMMARY:Workshop - Spinning with Jacey Boggs Faulkner
DESCRIPTION:Registration deadlines:  February 25\, 2026.  On Feb. 16 the event opens to non-members. \nThere is minimum of 16 people needed and maximum of 20 people allowed. \nCost: $80 – On Feb. 16 the price increases to $100. \nWhen: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday\, March 5\, to Friday March 6 \nMaterials: $40 per person\, please bring cash and pay her on the first day. Jacey will bring all the fiber materials needed for 2 days. \nStudents bring:  Spinning wheel that works\, 3 bobbins\, lazy Kate or something that works as a lazy Kate.  Bring your lunch.  Coffee-tea provided. \nDescription:  Join Jacey Boggs Faulkner for 2 days of spinning education and exploration.  We’ll start with a journey from worsted to woolen and all the drafts along that spectrum.  We’ll cover short forward\, short backward\, from the fold\, from the tip\, all the semis\, supported long draw (American)\, and double draft (English) along with how to change diameters and stay consistent.  Then we’ll move into plying\, exploring how and why we ply.  We’ll ply both worsted and woolen yarns and discuss how and why they’re plied differently.  Then we’ll move into some differential tension plying\, looking at coils and other textured techniques. \nBio: Jacey spent the past 20+ years falling in love with fiber. She’s written books and articles\, made videos and tutorials\, and taught workshops and classes all over the world. But she’s most proud of PLY\, which was started on a whim and full lack of knowledge about what she was getting into. She went on to start the PLY Spinners Guild and WEFT Magazine. \nSponsorship: This workshop is partially sponsored by the Patricia Williams Memorial Fund.  Patricia was a spinner\, weaver\, knitter and quilter\, and a member of the Portland Handweavers guild. Central Oregon Spinners & Weavers is grateful to Cherry Williams and the family for their donation. \nSee workshop policy here. \nWorkshop participants agree to indemnity\, defend and hold harmless COSWG\, its officers and members\, from all claims arising out of workshop activities.
